Beef

Our beef comes from our own herd of pedigree North Devon cattle(Red Rubies). The animals spend as much of the year as possible outdoors on grass, only coming in for a couple of months to preserve the pasture. We use no artificial fertilizer, pesticides or herbicides on our fields. The only fertilization is provided by the animals. As we have sheep as well, we are able to rotate the grazing, thus reducing the need for worming.
We keep the beef animals for as long as it takes for them to reach the right condition for slaughter, we only feed them with grass, hay and haylage, so this can take them right up to the 30 month deadline sometimes, but slow growing beef definitely tastes better!
When ready the animals are taken to slaughter at Snells in South Chard, after which they hang for a minimum of 21 days, then they go to Complete Meats in Axminster, where they they are cut up into the various steaks, joints, mince etc.
We are then able to sell meat direct from the farm, as individual joints, steaks etc., to callers, or we are able to deliver boxes of approx 10kg of meat, contact us for prices and delivery arrangements
