Farmer Chris is taking the last three remaining piggies off to 'meat' their maker today. They go to a local abbatoir in Chard which is only 7-8 miles away . They stay in overnight for bed and breakfast so that they are as stress free as possible on the day of slaughter.
This is one aspect of farming I find hard but I know those piggies have had a good life and have had plenty of space to run around in and have been spoilt rotten.
The quality of the meat surpasses any found in a supermarket and the crackling is beyond compare.
Meanwhile, Cynthia oblivious to the fate of her daughters is still basking under her heat lamp with what looks like a smug grin on her 'chops' !
There is a hint of blue sky today and there are a couple of little egrets standing stock still by the stream.
Cakes to bake now for our new guests arriving later- Victoria sponge or lemon drizzle- I need to make a decision.
